Good Morning Saline: Trick or Treat, Business Treats Kids, and Regional Champs

Here's your daily greeting along with five things you should know on Oct. 31, 2011.

Good Morning Saline

Today's Good Morning Saline video is given by the Saline varsity girls cross country team, which captured Saturday's regional championship with a perfect score. In the video are Alyssa Cummings, Elianna Shwayder, Abby Rentschler, Gloria Park, Lauren Green, Amy Frauhammer and Amy Creutz.

Is Mother Nature playing a trick on Halloween? Weather.com calls for a high of 54 and temperatures dropping to 32 tonight. There's also a good chance of showers throughout the day. They could clear up by the end of trick-or-treating hours. The temperature should be about 49 at 6 p.m., when trick-or-treating officially begins in Saline. Sunrise is at 8:06 a.m. and sunset is at 6:30 p.m.

Trick or Treating is from 6-8 p.m. tonight in the  As in previous years, officers will be out on patrol to ensure the safety of children.The city advices that parents should be aware to always check the contents of the bags before allowing children to consume any of the treats.

Businesses, Parks and Rec Treat Kids

Saline Parks and Recreation and more than a dozen local businesses treated more than 200 families to a fun night out during Thursday's Trick-or-Treat Trail event at the Parks and Recreation director from the events as well as a list of all the businesses who contributed on her blog.

Tracking The Hornets

Saturday was a great day for Saline High School's long distance runners. The regional championship, finishing 1-2-3-4-5 for a perfect score of 15. It was the first perfect score in a regional in Saline history. Elianna Shwayder was the individual regional champ. with ease, placing five boys in the top 9 to win their fourth straight regional title. Nick Renberg was individual regional champ.

We don't have the results, but Saline's girls also won a big swim meet at Zeeland High School Saturday. The Hornets finished with 599 points, 14 better than Holland, which is ranked as the top team in Division 2. Saline is gunning for its third consecutive state title.
