Good Morning Saline: Relay Finishes, Sports Physicals, Fiddlers Lauded and more

Here are five things you should know about Saline on Aug. 1, 2011.

The Weather

Meet the new month, same as the old month. More hot. More humid. Chance of some thunderstorms. According to weather.com, if we get thunderstorms, they’ll probably come before noon. After that, it’s sunny and hot, and the humidity should fall as the potential for storms leaves town. Expect a high near 92.

First Relay Complete

The first Relay for Life event in Saline has come and gone. Early figures show the the event raised in excess of $18,500 for the American Cancer Society. More than 35 cancer survivors participated in the event. The Luminaria Ceremony honored over 168 people who lost their battle with cancer. Organizers are already planning next year’s event. Sports Physicals Offered Wednesday

Do you have any children participating in Saline school sports this year? They’re required to have a physical on file with the school. The athletic department and trainer Jaime Corl are offering physicals from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Saline Middle School. Cost is $30. No appointment is necessary.

Saline Fiddlers  

The Saline Fiddlers make fans and friends wherever they go, but check out Colin Cronin’s thoughts after watching the Fiddlers’ performance at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Said Cronin:

The Saline Fiddlers may not be a strictly classical ensemble, but they are a perfect representation of visionary musicians, having set an incredible standard for youth extracurricular programs in the United States.

Urgent Care Clinic Holds Grand Opening Wednesday

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Nasir Ali are inviting people to the grand opening of the Advance Urgent Care and Walk-in Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. The clinic is located at 140 S. Industrial Dr.
