See the Art, Be the Art

If you’ve been by the library since yesterday you probably noticed something different. The gang at are up to something again. This time, it’s an art installation that ties in with the summer reading things, which are: One World, May Stories; You Are Here; and Novel Destination. The installation will be completed by Friday. At that point, people are welcome to walk around and “become part of” the art project. There is a meet and greet set for 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 27.

Christmas Wishes From Wisconsin

When you tour the country and entertain children with your famous marionette company for 40 years, like Meredith Bixby did, you probably earn the kind of karma that brings this kind of magic to your life. On Dec. 23, 1958, the Milwaukee Sentinel reported a story about two balloons, carrying a Christmas greeting from an 11-year-old Wisconsin girl, that were found by Meredith Bixby snagged in the shrubbery outside of WOIA Radio Station in Saline. Bixby was president of the station. A note was attached to balloons:

Please fill me out and mail me back, Found me where? And when? Beverly Small, 711 ½ 4th St., Mosinee, Wis. This is my Christmas greeting to whoever finds this.

She sent up the balloons as part of a Campfire Girls project. Her balloons travelled nearly 400 miles, as the balloon flies.

Today's Good Morning Saline greeting was given by Dairy Queen employees Alison Gray and Lindsey Wilcox.
