Good Morning Saline: Hornets Kick Off Tonight, Schools Ranked Again, Shwayder Leaders Lady Hornets and More

The Weather

Expect sunny skies and a high of 80 today, according to Weather.com. The sun will rise at 6:54 a.m. and set at 8:19 p.m. It should be sunny and 76 when the Hornets kick off their season against Walled Lake Western at 7 p.m. at Hornets Stadium tonight.

The Saline Hornets varsity football season begins its quest tonight against Walled Lake Western. Kick off is at 7 p.m. on the Hornets, which also includes a roster and schedule.

Schools Ranked Again

Michigan's Department of Education releases another ranking of local schools again today. Every public school in the state is ranked, from top to bottom, based on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program and the Michigan Merit Exam. Those deemed the "persistently lowest achieving" schools are required to submit school improvement plans to the state within 90 days. We'll post the data at 10 a.m.

Tracking the Hornets

team opened the season by winning at Troy Athens. Elianna Shwayder placed first and was one of three Saline girls in the top five as the Hornets won by a single point. We don't have scores, but we're told the boys' freshman, junior varsity and varsity soccer teams won at Troy Athens. We could not obtain scores from the soccer and tennis coaches. Golf was cancelled due to a double-booking.

Three Family Garage Sale

Get out to 800 N. Ann Arbor St. for a three-family garage sale. It starts at 8 a.m. The organizers say there are lots and lots of clothes as well as furniture and other items.

Today's Good Morning Saline greeting was given by the Saline High School Color Guard. You can catch them in action at halftime of tonight's football game between Saline and Walled Lake Western.
