Get the Kids Geared Up For Summerfest Fishing Contest

Kids will take to the waters at Mill Pond Park Saturday.

The Annual Saline Summerfest Kids Fishing Contest will take place Saturday at Mill Pond Park in Saline.

Sign up begins at 7:30 a.m., with fishing lines in the water at 8 a.m.

The contest lasts two hours, with prizes given away at 11 a.m. to the kids who caught the most fish and the biggest fish. Participants must be present to collect their prizes. Rods and Reels Gift Cards have been donated as prizes by Cabela's in Dundee.

Participants need to bring their own fishing poles and hooks. Worms will be provided by the event sponsor, Holy Faith Church of Saline.

Ian Reed-Twiss is the Pastor at Holy Faith.

“We’ve sponsored this event for the past few years now,” said Reed-Twiss.

The church has a very active youth group, so a kids event is the perfect fit.

“It is fun for the community and a nice thing to do for that age group,” said Reed-Twiss.

The contest is open for all kids ages 14 and under and is divided into three age groups. They are six and under, seven-to-10, and 11-to-14. Kids must fish for the entire two hour time period, and must land their own fish. Parents may help kids cast their rods, but that is the extent of assistance allowed. Each fish caught will be measured and recorded, then thrown back.
