Census: Saline and Milan Buck State Trend and Grow

The cities of Saline and Milan, and the townships of Pittsfield, Saline, Lodi and York all saw population increases from 2000 to 2010.

Despite the troublesome economy, the Saline and Milan regions enjoyed growth over the last decade, according to 2010 Census numbers released Tuesday

The cities of and both grew. The City of Saline population is 8,810. That's up 9.6 percent from 8,034 in the 2000 census. In the City of Milan, the population is 5,836. That's 21.9 percent more than the 4,775 counted in the 2000 census.

Pittsfield, , Lodi and townships continued to grow.

In Pittsfield, the population is 34,663, up 15.7 percent from 30,167 in the 2000 census. York’s population increased to 8,708, a 17.9 percent increase over the 7,392 listed in 2000. Lodi’s population also increased to 6,058, a 6.1 percent increase over the 5,710 listed in the 2000 census. The population of Saline Township is 1,896. That's up 46.1 percent from 1,302 in the 2000 census.

Milan Township saw a slight decline in population. The census counted 1,601 residents, down 3.6 percent from the 1,670 counted in 2000.

Despite the growth, the areas felt the pinch of the recession, as the growth in vacant homes may indicate. In the City of Saline, the number of vacant houses jumped from 65 to 224. In the City of Milan, the number of vacant houses increased from 72 to 179.
