9/11 Art Memorial on Display at Saline Firehouse

Hundreds of people in the community contributed to the public art display that recognizes the FDNY emergency responders who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

The 9/11 art memorial that involved hundreds of area residents is now on display at the .

"Holding Heroes in Our Hearts — Never Forget 343" is a public art partnership between the Saline Area Schools art department and the Saline Area Fire Department. 

The finished product looks like the American flag from Michigan Avenue. Closer inspection shows dozens of hand prints making up the stars and stripes over the names of the 343 firefighters who died at the World Trade Center as a result of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The art project was created to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11. 

Hundreds of people participated in the project, signing names of the perished firefighters at the Saline Farmers Market last week. Children stamped their hand prints on to the flag at the Saline Community Fair Tuesday.
