Tutoring Business Aims to Help Saline Students

How did your business come to be?: I was tutoring privately our of my mother's basement and my boyfriend, now husband, told me that I should open a tutoring center. I thought the idea of owning a business was just absurd. After thinking about it for about a month I decided to try to give being a business owner a shot. I then went to my mother and asked if she would be my business partner and ultimately fund the project. Our goal for our business was to grow so we could assist as many students as possible and to truly make a difference.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?: Most customers probably don't know that we started out as Step Ahead Learning Center and only had six students enrolled when we opened our doors in 2001!

What services does your business provide?: We offer academic tutoring services for preK-12th grade students in all academic subject areas. In addition, we specialize in ACT and SAT test prep and teach a variety of academic classes, workshops, and camps.

What do you want your business to be best known for?: I want our business to be best known for caring about the students and their success. I want Great Lakes Educational Group to be remembered for....providing a superior learning opportunity!!!!

What's your most popular product or service?: Our most popular service is academic tutoring. We have a talented team of tutors who have a variety of expertise. Students are hand matched to tutors who are experts in the desired subject area. We deliver academic tutoring services K-12 in all academic subject areas.

When was the business founded?: February 2001.

Why did you choose to locate to the area?: My parents moved to Saline when I was seven years old, because it was a great community to raise a family and had an outstanding school system. I reaped the rewards of this decision over and over again. Saline IS an amazing place to raise a family and continues to have an incredible school system. I couldn't imagine owning a business any place else!
