Saline St. Patrick's Day Guide

Mac's St. Patrick's Day event also doubles as a fundraiser for the Saline Celtic Festival.

With St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Saturday, local establishments are making big plans that could keep locals shaking their shamrocks from morning till night.

“This is the first time we’ve had a St. Patrick’s Day on a Saturday in seven or eight years. It’s always a big day for us. But I think it could be huge,” said Bob Rash, co-owner of .

Rash and co-owner Wally MacNeil were planning a big event and since Rash is a member of the Celtic Festival committee, he decided to use the occasion to add a little bit of atmosphere to his event and also raise money for the festival at the same time.

Mac’s is serving corn beef and cabbage dinners. Another popular item is the Irish lamb stew. For an appetizer, patrons might want to try Irish cod cakes.

For the thirsty, Mac’s serves Guinness, Smithwick’s Ale, and Acardia’s Irish Red pints for $3.

Music will be provide by the Cleary Pub band and Bob Skon Trio throughout the day.

Members of the Celtic Festival Committee distribute brochures and posters. Customers can purchase Celtic Festival t-shirts and other items. Mac’s is establishing a Celtic Festival fundraiser item on the menu that will allow patrons to contribute.

Mac's will match the amount of money raised, dollar for dollar.

“It’s going to be a great day. We’ve got a very jovial atmosphere at Mac’s,” Rash said.

Mac’s is open from noon until midnight.

Here’s a rundown of St. Patrick’s Day activities in Saline.

The fun starts at 8 a.m. and goes into the wee hours at Brecon Grille.

It starts with an Irish breakfast (brisket and eggs). Brunch is served until 11 a.m. There are beer specials all day, including Killians Irish Red, Guinness and, of course, green beer.

Specialties served include shepherd’s pie and corn beef brisket.  There will also be live music and traditional Irish dancers (after 6 p.m.)

“We’re a Welsh pub so we’ve got a very Celtic atmosphere. St. Patrick’s Day is a special day here. This isn’t like it is at your average bar,” said owner Paul Geragosian.

 

Dan’s get s off to the earliest start in Saline with a 7 a.m. breakfast ($6.99). Owner Dan Kolander and staff serve eggs, corn beef hash and toast. Wash it down with coffee or a pint of Guinness.

For lunch, Dan’s serves Rueben sandwiches. Dinner is corn beef and cabbage ($7.99). The drink special is something Dan’s is calling the Irish Car Bomb, a mixture of Guinness, Jameson’s and Bushmill.

 

It’s about St. Patrick’s Day and college basketball at Wings, Pizza, ‘N’ Things.

A corn beef and cabbage platter is $8.99. A Rueben on rye bread with hand-cut fries is $7.99. They’re serving green beer and $2 domestic pints all day. The NCAA basketball tournament plays on the HD televisions. There will also be giveaways throughout the day.

 

Thompson’s is selling glasses of green beer for 5 cents. But that’s only if you get there at 9 a.m. It goes up 5 cents an hour. There will be karaoke and a DJ. Thompson’s is also serving a corn beef and cabbage dinner.

 

Saline American Legion Post 322

Starting at noon, the Legion will serve corn beef and cabbage dinners.
