Saline Businessman Recognized by Michigan Association of Home Builders

David Rhoads of Saline was selected as the Remodeler of the Year in the state of Michigan.

David Rhoads, owner of and First Design Cabinetry in Saline, was named the 2011 Remodeler of the Year by the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB).  Rhoads was chosen for the honor for his work in the building and remodeling industry as well as his high level of civic mindedness.

“It’s a great honor for me.  There are 4,300 current members in [the Michigan Association of Home Builders]; to be selected as the one remodeler out of those 4,300 is something,” Rhoads said.

Rhoads is a certified graduate remodeler as well as certified aging-in-place specialist, which are nationally recognized certificates that exemplify his expertise and dedication to his profession. During his 27 years in Saline, he has been a member of the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor (BRAG Ann Arbor), where he has served as president and director.  Rhoads has also served as the executive director of MAHB and director of the National Association of Home Builders.  He was locally named Builder of the Year in 2007.

“I have a passion for remodeling.  I like to solve problems for people, so potential clients come to me with some concern with their home and I get the opportunity to come up with a vision for their house and a design that works for them,” Rhoads said.

In an interview, Rhoads also spoke of his work in the community as well as in remodeling.  He lives in town, in a house built in 1907 that he worked to remodel himself.  He serves on the City Council and has been mayor pro tem as well as a member of the Environmental Council and Saline Leadership Institute.
