Ribbon Cutting at new Saline Restaurant

Community gathered to help The Downtown Diner celebrate their official grand opening.

Terry Thompson, owner of Saline’s new breakfast hot spot, The Downtown Diner, held the official grand opening and ribbon cutting a week ago Friday.

The new restaurant is located at 131 E. Michigan Ave. with entry off the back parking lot between North Ann Arbor St. and Hall Street. Members from the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Saline and other business owners and community members attended to welcome the new business.

Thompson is not new to the restaurant business.

“I’ve been a head chef for most of my life,” he said.

When he saw the empty location, he said it seemed like a no-brainer to bring a new breakfast and lunch destination to Saline. He partnered with his friend Mark Marsh, and the business was opened to the public Aug. 7.

It seems to have taken no time at all for people to catch on to the new place.

“It’s nice to see the crowds he is getting already,” said SACC Executive Director Larry Osterling. “Three weeks into it and he’s already establishing a church crowd on Sunday mornings,” Osterling said.

The Downtown Diner is opened for breakfast and lunch, with Good Morning Breakfast Specials that include six different loaded omelets, eggs benedict, French toast, pancakes and other breakfast menu fare. For lunch, the diner offers burgers, sandwiches, salads and a salad bar, a light menu and kids menu, too.

Hours for the restaurant are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week. For more information stop in or call 734-316-2343.
