The commute for Canton shoppers could be shortened to just a few steps with approval of a new outlet mall.
Don’t expect a rehash of what’s available at Tanger Outlets in Howell, Birch Run Premium Outlets in Birch Run and Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills, Paragon Outlet Partners’ Nicholas King told The Observer & Eccentric. The Baltimore-based company is expected break ground next spring on a 357,000-square-foot outlet mall, which could include about 100 stores.
“We try to differentiate ourselves from the existing retail offerings in the market,” King told the newspaper. “We try to bring a unique tenant mix, some products and some brands that aren’t in the area.”

If all goes as planned, the mall will open in the summer of 2016 in the Ford Road-Lotz area.
Canton officials expect the outlet mall to boost commerce in Canton Township in much the same way the IKEA store did in 2006
“The kinds of retailers they attract ... we don’t have any of that in the area,” Kristen Thomas, Canton’s economic development manager, told the newspaper. Some possible retailers include Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Calvin Klein.Representative of Paragon Outlet Partners were in Canton Monday to meet with prospective tenants. King said he thinks the Detroit area can handle another outlet mall.
