Light Turnout Expected for Tuesday's Primary Vote

Though there aren’t expectations of a large turnout, Saline City Clerk Dianne Hill and her staff are busy preparing for Tuesday’s election.

“We’re not expecting long lines,” said Hill. “The only real race we have is the Republican Presidential primary.”

Republicans will choose between Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich. On the Democratic Party ballot, President Barack Obama is unopposed.

According to Hill, so far, the city has received requests 385 Republican absentee ballots and 158 Democratic absentee ballots.

That’s about the same number of absentee ballots cast in the February 2011 Saline Area Schools bond vote (547) and the 2011 November general election (550).

The ballots will be counted on election day.

Hill said election workers designated to count absentee ballots will enter a room on election day and remain sequestered in the room — that has an adjoining restroom — until the ballots are counted and polls are closed.
Voters in Washtenaw County Commissioner District 7 will choose between Felicia Brabec, Democratic, and Richard Cronn, Republican.
