DEXTER, Mich. — Home-bound seniors with pets who receive mobile meals will receive help for their pets as part of a local initiative organized by LaFontaine Chevrolet.
Throughout February, the Dexter auto dealership is partnering with the Livingston County Senior Nutrition Program and Chef Wheelie's Pet Meals on Wheels program to collect food for dogs and cats living with area seniors.
"Pets play an important role in the lives of aging community members. Often times, senior citizens are unable to care for their pets due to financial strain in the lives or mobility issues," Lafontaine said in a press release. "We have found that when food is delivered to recipients of the Meals on Wheels program, if their pet has not eaten, they will feed their pet instead of themselves.
"This doesn’t have to happen, like their owners, pets that are cherished by hundreds of home-bound seniors receiving our services also need nutritious meals to stay healthy."
The dealership is collecting pet food (dry/canned) cat or dog food, monetary donations for supplies and/or food, and toys and treats for animals. Donations can be dropped off at 7120 Dexter-Ann Arbor Road in Dexter, or 900 W. Michigan Ave. in Saline.
