'Punch Out Cancer' at Curves of Saline

The fitness center offers a Breast Cancer Awareness Month special that will benefit St. Joseph Mercy Saline Mammography Services.

The Curves fitness club in Saline invites residents to "punch out cancer" with a special offer to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Saline residents can buy at $10 punch card for 10 workouts to be completed at Curves by Nov. 15, with proceeds going to St. Joseph Mercy Saline Mammography Services. The workouts can be done in honor of someone who battled breast cancer and a poster will be put up at Curves for each participant, according to a press release.

"The punch card is a fun way for women to get involved and help punch out cancer but it also gives us the opportunity to teach the importance of exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight," Curves of Saline owner Melissa Laing said. "After all, 30 minutes of 'me' time is always a good thing."

Getting regular exercise is one of the best ways to stay healthy, according to the American Cancer Society.

"Being active helps reduce your cancer risk by helping with weight control. It can also help improve your hormone levels and the way your immune system works," the ACS says. "The latest recommendations for adults call for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity each week, or an equivalent combination, preferably spread throughout the week."

Call Curves of Saline at 734-316-2155 for more information on the punch card program.
