Fiddlers ReStrung Tuned Up for Holiday Hometown Concert

The Saline High School group joins with Toys for Tots to bring Christmas to town.

Saline’s Fiddlers ReStrung is coming home to perform again.  On Dec. 4, the high school group will perform its annual Holiday Hometown Concert at the Ewing Performing Arts Center at the high school.

“The group sets very high standards for themselves.  I’m pretty excited; this is about the 25th hometown concert I’ve been involved with, and quite honestly, I can say this is the best one I’ve seen yet,” said the Fiddlers’ Artistic Director Corinna Smith.

The Fiddlers ReStrung will join with the Saline Area Fire Department’s Toys for Tots collection for the fourth year.  The number of toys collected has grown each year of the union between the two programs, and Smith looks forward to keeping that record going.

“The first year we collected a few hundred toys, but the next three years, we’ve collected over a thousand.  We’re really looking forward to breaking our record again this year,” Smith said.

The Dec. 4 performance, which will also feature the Saline High School Chorus and the local group Appleseed Collective, will be a one-time gathering, but the Fiddlers ReStrung will also be in the Saline Holiday Parade on Dec. 3.  Drop-off for Toys for Tots will be available at the Saline Fire Department, and there are plenty of families in need this year, according to Saline’s Fire Chief Craig Hoeft.

“There are always a lot of people out there that need our help.  It’s always great to make sure the kids are the happiest.  Christmas without a present would certainly be sad; we need to do whatever we can,” said Hoeft.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.  For more information, visit the Fiddlers ReStrung website.  The Fire Department is accepting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots now at the fire station, as well as at the concert on Dec. 4.
