New frontiers in American traditional music

Fiddler Mark O'Connor started out as a Nashville session musician, moving through progressive bluegrass, old-time sounds, and classical music to create a unique style that's an apotheosis of American traditional music. At this show, Mark O'Connor will perform traditional songs and original compositions from his latest release, "American Classics," as well as some of his best-known solo pieces—great folk songs, fiddle tunes, and classic themes culled from 400 years of traditional American violin and fiddle playing. The performance pulls from all regions of North America and diverse musical styles including folk, jazz, ragtime, blues, Texas fiddle, and American classical. Mark will be accompanied by pianist Melissa Tong.  Visit Mark at http://markoconnor.com/

The second part of the show will feature America's premier youth fiddling show band the Saline Fiddlers.  The Saline Fiddlers represent the positive side of today's youth while reflecting the rural traditions of Saline, Michigan and ultimately the country. The performers, all students of Saline Area Schools, earn their places through competitive auditions based on musical ability and personal integrity. They have been across the globe and played at the Whitehouse three times.  Mark O'Connor is sure to rejoin the stage with the Fiddlers too!  Visit the Saline Fiddlers at http://www.salinefiddlers.com/
