Weather Forces Organizers to Scale Back Winterfest

All of the events scheduled for Henne Field have been canceled

With no snow on the ground and temperatures expected to remain unseasonably warm, organizers have canceled some of the events at Saline Winterfest.

Downtown Development Director Art Trapp, who coordinates the events, made the cancelations official at Monday’s Saline City Council meeting.
Here’s what’s canceled:

• Snowman Building Championship of the Free World.

• Snowman Decorating Contest.

• Fireman’s Hot Chocolate and Chili.

• Ice Skating Demo.

Here’s what’s still going on:

• Opening Ceremony with the Massachusetts Provincial Battalion at the corner of South Ann Arbor and Henry streets at 9 a.m.

• The Fifth Corner 5K Run at 9:30 a.m.

• Breakfast at Downtown Diner at 8 a.m.

• Euchre at at 10 a.m.

• Kids games and crafts and the Snow Bank Treasure Hunt at the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce at 10 a.m.

• Wagon Rides.

• Ice carvers at five locations around town.

Trapp said the other cities competing in the snowman building contest are also canceling the event. Saline won the contest last year, when dozens of residents built more than 400 snowmen at Saline will hold on to Frosty, the trophy awarded to the winner of the contest, for another year.
