The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County Seeks Holiday Volunteers

The organization is looking for bell ringers as well as people to work in their Christmas Toy Shop this holiday season.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County (TSA-WC) is seeking volunteers from the community to lend a helping hand this holiday season. 

Volunteers are essential to helping the charity reach its 2012 Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goal of $330,000, as well as help serve families and individuals as follows:

Red Kettle Bell Ringers

Volunteers – individually or in groups – are needed to fill bell ringing shifts at TSA-WC’s 35 red kettle locations throughout Washtenaw County Friday, Nov. 9 - Monday, Dec. 24, excluding Thanksgiving and Sundays.  Bell ringers are asked to volunteer for a minimum of four hours at a time, though longer shifts are encouraged.  If you have any questions please call Kristen Brundage at (734) 668-8353.

Christmas Toy Shop

TSA-WC needs volunteers to assist parents in choosing children’s gifts during its annual Christmas Toy Shop, slated for 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19. Gifts for infants through 14-year-olds will be displayed throughout the gym at the Ann Arbor Corps Community Center for parents to select to brighten their youngsters’ Christmas morning. Volunteer shifts are available for both individuals and groups.

Online Red Kettle contributions to TSA-WC can be made at www.sawashtenaw.org.

TSA-WC uses an average of $.82 of every dollar donated to provide a food pantry, soup kitchen, clothing assistance, a family shelter, transitional housing and counseling for veterans, character building for youth, camp programs, emergency and disaster relief, utility assistance and eviction prevention.
