- Submitted by the Saline Chamber of Commerce

Area residents and business people are being encouraged to send in nominations and take advantage of the opportunity to recognize their favorite citizens at the “Saline Salutes” Awards.  Applications are now being accepted.  The event is being hosted by the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce in Saline, Michigan and will be held on Friday, April 12 at the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center at Saline High School.

In recognizing the high level of importance of service to community, each year the Chamber seeks nominations for those individuals with an outstanding record of achievement in this area.  Among the awards to be given out again will be three that are decided upon by a special “blue ribbon” panel of civic and business leaders.  Considered as awards given on behalf of a grateful community, they are the “Citizen of the Year”, “Lifetime Achievement”, and the “George Anderson Vision Award”.  A special “Youth of the Year Award” will also be presented by the Saline Youth Council.

The Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has contributed a significant amount of time during the past year to one or more worthy causes.  The Lifetime Achievement Award seeks a recipient who has dedicated many years of service achievable over a lifetime of dedication.  Named after a past and popular Mayor of Saline, the George A. Anderson Vision Award goes to someone who serves, or has serviced, in a volunteer or advisory capacity with an area government-related entity.

Nomination forms are simple and easy and, according to staff members at the Chamber, “The more the better!  This is a chance for an entire community to be heard in a very positive and meaningful way!”  Nominations are due by Thursday, February 28th and are obtainable from the Chamber.  The public is also invited and encouraged to make reservations to attend Saline Salutes Awards Ceremonies in April.  Included in a memorable evening is entertainment, a strolling buffet by high school students of the South and West Washtenaw Consortium, and a short awards program.  Both nomination forms and reservations can be obtained on the Chamber’s website at www.salinechamber.org or by calling 734-429-4494.
