Poppy Days Continue Saturday in Saline

Saline area residents and shoppers can honor the sacrifice of America’s service men and women by wearing a red “poppy.”

The Saline American Legion Auxiliary is selling poppies in front of , and Country Market from Saturday morning and afternoon.

Each year, before Memorial Day, volunteers distribute millions of the poppies in exchange for donations, which are then used to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans. The poppies are made by hospitalized veterans who make a small wage for their work.

The poppies became symbol of soldiers’ sacrifice during World War I, where they great wild in the battlefields of Belgium.

Saline will mark Memorial Day with the annual parade begins at the on Harris Street, and continues along Michigan to Monroe Street, before it enters Oakwood Cemetery for a ceremony. After the ceremony, a brick dedication will take place at the Saline American Legion Post.
