Mom's Talk: Help First-Time School Moms Get Ready for Kindergarten

Help parents feel less anxious about sending their child to kindergarten and join the conversation.

Welcome moms (and some dads too!) to Mom’s Talk on Patch!  Join us here every Wednesday at 1 p.m. to talk about all things parenthood, from schools and doctor visits to tantrums, homework and recalled toys.  No topic is off limits when it comes to our kids, whether it’s the buzz on the playground or something off the radar in need of  attention.

This week we are talking about kindergarten. Just thinking about it brings some first time school moms to tears! For others, it is the light at the end of the tunnel that will give them their well deserved solace.

Mostly, it is anxiety of the unknown. That is where all of you moms come in!  What kind of kindergarten did your child go to? Traditional half-day? If so, what are the benefits for a.m. vs. p.m.?  Maybe your child did the extended day option kindergarten, or a private program. Which is better and why?

Also, what advice do you have to offer first timers to keep separation anxiety at bay? How do moms cope? How do they help their kids cope?

If you are a first time school mom, what are your concerns?  How can we help?
