Cute Puppy Needs an Active Home

Scout is an eight-month-old pit bull mix.

Scout is an eight-month-old, pit bull-mix who, with white with black freckles, is cute as a button.

He was relinquished by his owners who could not care for him properly. He is a very smart and super sweet little pup.

He’s young and energetic, so he's looking for an active family that's ready to do lots of running and playing! He should also go to a home with older children due to his puppy energy. Scout loves squeaky toys and loves to play in the snow! Stop by the Human Society of Huron Valley shelter to say hi to Scout!

Scout is a recent graduate of a special training program called MI-PAWS. The HSHV and the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility have joined together to provide shelter dogs with a foster and training program. The program is part of MI-Paws, which stands for Michigan Inmates Providing Assistance Work and Service.

Each dog graduating from the program will be tolerant of grooming (including trimming nails, checking teeth and ears, brushing, etc.), be able to walk nicely on leash, learn the commands sit, down, stay, come, "leave it," as well as up and off and will probably know more than a few cute pet tricks to boot! They will also be house-trained.

The shelter is located at 3100 Cherry Hill Rd., Ann Arbor.

HSHV Searches for a Dog Star

The HSHV is searching for a "Celebrity Spokesdog" to be the goodwill ambassador for the 2011 Arbor Research/HSHV Walk & Wag, the organization's dog walk and family fun-day event.

Does your dog have what it takes? The winning dog should be an alumnus of the HSHV, be friendly toward people and other animals, well-mannered, and available to attend media events and Walk & Wag on Saturday, May 21.

The winning canine will have his or her likeness featured on event posters and brochures and will be celebrated on the HSHV web page and in our newsletter. But best of all, the 2011 Celebrity Spokesdog will be highlighted at the Walk & Wag festivities at the County Farm Park at 2230 Platt Rd., in front of hundreds of adoring doggie-friends.

To enter your pooch, donate $15 as an entry fee by clicking here. After submitting the $15 application fee donors will be directed to a thank you page where they will find a link to submit an essay and photo.

Interested people can also enter via postal mail. Completed applications must be received by March 14. A picture, essay and $15 donation should be sent to:
