Over 2,000 communities across the U.S participate in the CROP Hunger Walk, sponsored by Church World Service. Funds raised will help support ministry of the Church World Service hunger fighting development efforts.

According to the Web site, 25 percent of the funds raised locally stay in the community. Perry said money that stays in Saline will be donated to Saline Area Social Services.

“They have seen a huge increase in need over the past few years,” she said. “Especially for families with children.”

The walk will begin at the First United Methodist Church and include a lemonade rest stop at the First Presbyterian Church Prayer and Meditation Garden. The event will conclude back at the First United Methodist Church where walkers will arrive to hot food.
