Casino Night in its Fifth Year at Saline Summerfest

Event sponsored by Saline Rotary puts proceeds to good use.

Hey Saline, are you feeling lucky?

Casino Night takes place during Saline Summerfest Friday night, from 7 to 11 p.m. Sponsored by Rotary Club of Saline, Casino night is a big part of the annual two-day festival in downtown Saline. The festival takes place Friday and Saturday.

“This year all proceeds will benefit our scholarship program,” said Rotarian Jill Durnen. “Saline Rotary gives four $1,000 scholarships each year to Saline High School seniors. In past years, we have funded park benches and the ice rink at Henne Field, and the pavilion behind the Saline Rec Center with our Casino Night proceeds.”

City councillor Brian Marl said the event is a great way to have fun while helping an organization do good in the community.

“Rotary does just a fantastic job,” said Marl, who hasn’t missed a Casino Night at Summerfest yet. “It is a great place to reconnect with family and friends. The funds go to really noble causes, and you can win fabulous prizes."

Local businesses donated prizes for winning players including a Wadia iPod Dock donated by Paragon Sight & Sound, a Weber gas grill donated by Hartman Insurance, a Mary Kay Prize Package, and more.

This year the games include black jack, craps, and for the first time, the money wheel.

“We thought the money wheel would draw in new people who don’t feel comfortable with card or dice games,” said Durnen.

For those not familiar with any of the games, the first hour, from 7 to 8 p.m., will be designated as beginner's hour, but the dealers will teach patrons how to play throughout the evening.

A $15 donation gets a player $100 in “play money,” which gets cashed in at the gaming tables for chips. When a player is done playing, they cash in their chips for raffle tickets, one per $100 in play money, to be entered for prizes.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available from the $50 to $500 level. Contact Jill Durnen for details at 734-429-5491.

The Casino Night tent will be centrally located near live entertainment along S. Ann Arbor St., between Michigan Ave. and Henry St., in the parking lot behind Little Caesars.
