DESCRIPTION:Many healthcare organizations have Spanish-speaking staff who
  could serve as interpreters &ndash\; with the proper training. Universi
 ty of Michigan Health Services (UMHS) Interpreter Services offers a cour
 se &ndash\; Medical Interpreting for Spanish Speakers &ndash\; to teach 
 your staff the skills they need to interpret competently. This course is
  open to all fully bilingual people who want to communicate with Spanish
 -speakers in healthcare settings.The course provides a 60-hour introduct
 ion to medical interpreting\, focusing on:&bull\;	Interpreting skills&bu
 ll\;	Cultural competency&bull\;	Spanish fluency and medical terminology&
 bull\;	Basic medical knowledge&nbsp\;To enroll in the course\, students 
 must first pass a 20-minute assessment\, conducted via a web meeting.&nb
