New Business Aims to Help People Find Work

Belcan Staffing Solutions is currently looking for people to work in the light industrial sector.

If you're hunting for a job, a new staffing agency that opened in Saline last week might be able to help. Belcan Staffing Solutions opened at 513 E. Michigan Ave. in the Saline Shopping Center last Monday. Branch manager Shelly Dunn said the company will be hiring employers looking for light industrial, clerical and technical workers. Currently, Belcan is hard at work finding workers for light assembly work at a manufacturing facility in town. "Due to contractual obligations, we are not able to disclose the name of our client,” said Kimberly Maly, regional leader for Belcan Staffing Solutions. Experience isn’t required, according to Dunn. “We’re looking for people who show up to work each day on time,” Dunn said. “We’re looking for people …

Hundred Test Drive Fords in Support of Music Programs

Ford Motor Company is donating $20 for every test drive at Saturday's event, sponsored by Briarwood Ford.

Saline Music Parents partnered with Briarwood Ford and Ford Motor Company in hopes of raising $6,000 for Saline Area Schools music programs during the second annual Drive One 4 Ur School test drive event held at Harvest Elementary School Saturday. Ford Motor Company will contribute $20 to the Saline Music Parents for every test drive. That money will help pay for guest instructors and scholarships in the Saline Area Schools music programs. Briarwood Ford provided 14 vehicles for the event. The most popular were the Ford Mustang, Ford F150 and Ford Explorer. Attendance was solid, despite the constant threat of rain. Last year's event was a rousing success, raising $8,000 for school music programs.

Faurecia & Ford — Questions & Answers

Saline will lose 1,000 jobs and $700 million of business.

Faurecia announced it is acquiring the Saline Ford plant business. Faurecia and  Rush Group Ltd. have formed a joint ventural called Detroit Manufacturing Systems, which will do injection molding, assembly and sequencing of interior trim components from a new facility in Detroit. Currently, the Saline plant does $1.1 billion of sales annually. Faurecia says that number will fall to $400 million as work is transitioned to DMS. Additionally, the Saline workforces will be scaled down from 2,100 to 1,100. Previously, the UAW Local 892 voted to ratify a contract that reduces starting wages to $11 an hour. Crain's Detroit: Faurecia In Joint Venture With Rush Group

Detroit Manufacturing Systems LLC will take about 600 assembly jobs from the Saline plant, according to UAW leader Mark Caruso.

Crain's Detroit is reporting that Faurecia North America is the minority stakeholder in trucking company Rush Group's Detroit Manufacturing Systems, LLC. On his Shifting Gears Blog, Dustin Walsh cites an unnamed source to report that Faurecia and Rush Group struck a deal after Faurecia reached a deal with the United Auto Workers Local 892. Faurecia has been in negotiations to acquire the ACH plant in Saline since August of 2011. UAW Local 892 President Mark Caruso has said that Faurecia plans to continue plastic molding operations at the Saline plant, using just 25 percent of the 1.6 million square foot plant. The voices of Saline High School singers rang at the Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center April 23-25.

The Saline High School Choirs performed at the 2012 Cabaret Concerts April 23-25 in the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center. Choirs performing included the Concert Choir, the Chamber Choir, the Chordsmen and the Ten Tones. The students performed old classics, like Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair, and modern numbers, such as Adele's Someone Like You.
