I'm in my mid-40's and I have had the most success with Saline ATA Martial Arts "ATA Fitness" program. I have been doing ATA Fitness for about 6 years and prefer it over other programs. Overall, I get the best (and most fun!) cardio and strengthening from ATA Fitness. In addition, proper punching and kicking techniques are used in combination as a means of practicing self-defense while burning calories. I like that because you "take" skills home with you that have practical application. I think that is why I don't get bored with it. Lots of ab-work is mixed in for a complete full-body workout. Best bang for the buck around! They offer the first 3 classes free so you have nothing to lose by trying it and there are 7 class options offered per week.

I have scoelosis and have chronic back pain as a result. I have tried just about everything including PT, Accupuncture, Pain Clinic, Chiropractic, Massage.....what I have found to help the best is Pilates. I take pilates at the Saline Rec Center with Kathy Metta on Tuesdays at 5:00pm. PIlates keeps my core strong, helps with my flexibility whichi in turn keeps my back strong and virtually painfree. I highly recommend PIlates for anyone with back issue or for those who want to strengthen their core.
