Weekend Planner: Fiddling, Pumpkin Rolls and More

St. Joseph Mercy's Fashionable Growth Fundraiser

  • Where:Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest, 1275 S. Huron St.
  • When: 6-9 p.m. today
  • Pricing: $50
  • Why Go: St. Joseph Mercy once again holds its Fashionable Growth fundraiser to benefit its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which gives care to critically ill and premature babies. Guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, dinner, awards, raffles, and a fashion show.

The Great Pumpkin Roll

  • Where:Mill Pond Park
  • When: 9 a.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: Don't just toss out that old Jack-O-Lantern. Instead, why not bring it over to Mill Pond Park for some fall fun, part of the 8th annual Great Pumpkin Roll. Participants can race their gourd against others, and the winner will get a fun mystery prize. Cider and donuts will also be served, and Waste Management will have an antique truck on site for kids to explore.

  • Where: Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center,
  • When: 7-10 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $10-$20
  • Why Go: Enjoy an energetic and entertaining show by the Saline Fiddlers, featuring music, song and dance seasoned with American folk fiddle, bluegrass, jazz, western swing and Celtic styles. Supporting the Fiddlers is Shout Sister Shout, a Michigan quintet specializing in 1930s and 1940s jazz.

Rec Center Open House

  • Where: Saline Recreation Center
  • When: Noon-6 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: The Saline Recreation Center holds its Fall Open House. Try a free fitness class, test out some equipment, let the kids bounce around on the inflatables or play in the fun zone, take a family swim or play aqua volleyball, indulge in a free massage, get a free children's ID kit or check out a magic show and more. Plus there will be giveaways, samples and a raffle drawing. If you sign up for membership that day, you'll also enjoy a 10 percent discount.

Other events

  • "Songs of the Birds" solo exhibit lands at Riverside Arts Center, 76 N. Huron, Ypsilanti, featuring the work of Saline artist Carol Hanna. Reception will be held 5-7 p.m. today.
  • Winter Farmers Market starts Saturday, open 9 a.m.-noon, shop for in-season goods and crafted items at Liberty School, Saline Area Schools.
