Congressman Walberg to Face Challenge From Monroe Attorney

Tim Walberg defeated Riga Township Republican Dan Davis in Tuesday's primary election.

U.S. Rep Tim Walberg had no trouble defeating Republican challenger Dan Davis in Tuesday’s primary.

Walberg, R-Tipton, had more than 75 percent of the vote as of 1:28 a.m. with results still coming in from Hillsdale, Monroe and Washtenaw counties. Davis, a former law enforcement officer who resides in Riga Township, ran against Walberg in 2010 as a Tea Party candidate.

Walberg will likely face Kurt Haskell, who had 60 percent of the vote with results still coming in from Hillsdale, Monroe and Washtenaw counties. Haskell, a lawyer who lives in Monroe, faced Ruben Marquez, chairman of the Jackson County Democratic Party.

The redrawn 7th district is much more conservative than it was in 2010, when Walberg defeated incumbent Mark Schauer in one of the country’s most expensive races. Walberg was merely returning the favor. In 2008, Schauer rode the Democratic Party wave and ousted Walberg from office.
