Here are video highlights from Friday's Mr. Pretty Legs contest at the Saline Celtic Festival

One of the big events on opening night at the Saline Celtic Festival is the Mr. Pretty Legs contest.

But is the contest really about "pretty legs?"

For the second straight year the only contestant to take off his shirt was the winner of the contest, which sees local men prancing around on stage in kilts as they are subjected to the barbs and whip of hostess Beth Patterson.

"The key is to take off your shirt," said Robert Johnstone, who proudly announced his Scottish heritage.

Johnstone took the reigns from Mr. Pretty Legs 2011, Leo Babcock, who was the only contestant to take off his shirt in last year's competition.

Ypsilanti's Bruce Pych, the first runner up, showed up for the Road Kilt concert in his kilt and was convinced to join the contest.

Pych drew laughter from the audience when he thanked the audience in his post-contest speech.

"Thank you everybody. This is the first thing that I've ever won second place in," he said.

Saline resident Alex Nola was second runner up.

"I come to the festival every year and decided to give it try," said Nola. "I wasn't nervous. I'm a musician. I love to be on stage."

The Saline Celtic Festival continues Saturday at Millpond Park.
