Saline's 10 Most Dangerous Intersections

Here are the intersections with the most car accidents in Saline.

What are the worst intersections in Saline?

It should be no surprise that eight of the top 10 are along Michigan Ave., Saline's busiest thoroughfare. But what are the others?

Here are the 10 intersections in the Saline area with the highest number of accidents in the past five years, according to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). Intersections are ranked by the number of reported crashes, which does not take into account traffic volume. Crashes reported occurred within 150 feet of the intersection.

Rank Intersection Annual Average of Accidents from 2007-2011
1 Michigan Ave E @ Maple St N 13.2
2 Michigan Ave E @ Industrial Dr 12.8
3 Michigan Ave E @ Ann Arbor St N 9.4
4 Michigan Ave E @ Harris St N 9.4
5 Michigan Ave W @ Monroe St 6.6
6 Michigan Ave E @ Hopper St 6.2
7 Michigan Ave W @ Austin Rd 5.0
8 Maple St N @ Woodland Dr E 4.0
9 Michigan Ave W @ Mills Rd 3.4
10 Ann Arbor St S @ Henry St W 3.0

The year 2002 saw the highest number of crashes in Saline in the past decade, with 253 crashes reported. In 2011, there were 179 crashes reported in the city.

The percent of total crashes from 2007-2011 that have been fatal is just 0.2 percent. While 1 percent have yielded incapacitating injuries, 16 percent have caused injury and 83 percent caused only property damage, according to SEMCOG data.

Do you agree with the data? Which intersection do you think is the worst?

why doesn't saline fix these dangerous intersections? Both #1 and #2 lack lights indicating or directing left turns. Is the city going to wait until someone is killed before taking action?

Its not the lights that are the problem, its the speeding people are going 50 plus down Michigan Ave at N. Maple and the police don't do a thing. When I take my daughter to school in the morning people are flying down Michigan Ave and they pass a police car and nothing happens. And trust me, these stats aren't bad, trying living in Macomb County where some of the intersections are the worst for accidents in the state then you worry.

Unfortunately, the traffic lights on Michigan Avenue are not under the City's control. The Michigan Dept of Transportation (MDOT) controls them and comments should be sent to them.
Thanks.

These intersections are also the most challenging for cyclists and pedestrains. I know State Police set the speed limits and M-Dot control the roads. I think Saline has been very agressive to reduce speeding and tI hank them for their support. Increased local control or at least a seat at the table regarding Michigan Ave. would help us improve Saline for everyone.
