Saline Fiddlers to Perform at DIA

The group will be a part of the Friday Night Live! series.

The Saline Fiddlers will perform two sets Friday at the Detroit Institute of Arts as part of the DIA's Friday Night Live! series.

“We are trying to expand our audience’s exposure to different kind of music," said Rudy Lauerman, programming director for the DIA. "(The Fiddlers) are really unique, and I think the audience will really enjoy it.”

The Fiddlers, started in 1994, is a group of students who play various stringed instruments in a wide range of music genres. Through the years, the group has added vocals as well as a dance group to enhance performances. They perform at venues not only throughout Michigan, but also across the United States and around the world.

“The secret to the success of the Fiddlers is the hard work and dedication,” said Mark Visovatti, the Saline Fiddlers' booking manager. Director Ben Culver also brings a high level of performance to the show, he said, adding that it "ain’t your grandpa’s fiddling show."

The event is free with museum admission ($8 for adults, $6 for seniors ages 62 and older, $4 for ages 6-17, free for DIA members). The Fiddlers open the first set at 7 p.m.; the second set starts at 8:30 p.m. There will be a forty-five minute break between sets, during which the audience is invited to explore the rest of the DIA.
