City looking for residents to sit on various committees

The city is looking for volunteer for the Parks, the city’s Art and Culture, Environmental and Historical District committees.

Sculpture Walk

Lovers of the arts can now view the city’s Sculpture Walk in its entirety.

The walk opened earlier this month.

Maps are available at City Hall. The Walk takes participants across town from the library to downtown and inside City Hall.

Linda Ter Haar, of the Arts and Culture committee, said the walk was made possible when artist Rick De Troyer loaned five of his works. The city will have them for 18 months.

The art work includes Regrowth, (De Troyer) in between City Hall and the Fire Station; Orange Risdon, (Elizabeth Rogers) inside City Hall; Wind Machine (De Troyer) on the southwest corner of Michigan and S. Ann Arbor; Family (De Troyer) on the southeast corner of Michigan and S. Ann  Arbor; Untitled (David K. Austin) at the Depot Museum; Rocket Man (De Troyer) at the northeast corner of McKay and N. Ann Arbor Street; Cardinal ( De Troyer) at the northeast corner of Henry and S. Ann Arbor Street; Little Reader, Lilacs and a Word to Teach (De Decket) at the Saline District Library and Seats of Our Heritage (De Troyer) on N. Ann Arbor Street between McKay and Michigan.

Recycling is catching on in Saline

The city’s Environmental Committee recently learned residents are excelling at the practice. According to Waste Management, the city’s recycling rate is nearly double of any other local community, Council member David Rhoads said.

Mayor Gretchen Driskell said the city has been averaging 10 pounds per person per week.

He said the committee is also discussing with the Harvest for The Arts festival about its booth. Last year the booth had a layer of sod placed over the asphalt. Rhoads said something bigger may happen this year. Oktoberfest Harvest for the Arts runs Sept. 28-29 in downtown Saline.
