Police Report: Man Crashes Car Into Ann Arbor Street Home

The following news items are from Saline Police Department Records dated May 26-June 4. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

Residents of a North Ann Arbor Street house had an uninvited visitor June 2, according to a Saline police report.

At about 2:19 a.m., a 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by a 40-year-old Ypsilanti man crashed into  the southeast corner of a home at 710 S. Ann Arbor St., according to the report.

A 33-year-old resident of the home told police she heard a loud bang, came out and saw a vehicle turned upside down in the neighbor’s driveway and called 911. Saline Fire arrived on the scene and broke out the rear window of the vehicle to free the driver, according to the report.

According to the report, the driver stated he had taken Vicodin and Xanax. The driver consented to a blood draw at St. Joseph Saline Hospital.

Charges are pending the results and prosecutor’s review, according to the report.

Truck Crashes into Tree After Driver Blacks Out

A local man will be asked to complete a driver’s evaluation test after crashing his pickup truck at North Harris and Clark streets May 26, according to a police report.

Police arrived on the scene and found the truck resting on a guide wire to a utility pole and the driver holding his head as he stood near the curb. The vehicle was going north on North Harris when it veered right, drove along the sidewalk for about 50 feet and struck a tree and came to a rest on the guide wire, with its front end up in the air, according to the report. The driver told police he could not remember the incident and that he had not had anything to drink or on any medication, according to the report. He was transported to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. Detroit Edison arrived to supervise the removal of the truck from the guide wire, according to the report.

Police Retrieve Family Cat for Couple

Saline Police helped return the family cat to an area couple. On June 4, the couple called police to report their “incorrigible son” and his girlfriend had taken the cat without permission, according to the report. Police contacted the couple at a Wallace Street home and son agreed to turn the cat over, according to the report.

Man Arrested on Charges of Drunk Driving

A 27-year-old Ypsilanti man was arrested on charges of drunk driving at 9:56 p.m., June 2, on Maple Road near Woodland Drive, according to a police report.

Police spotted the vehicle coming on Woodland Drive speeding at 47 miles per hour near the Weber Blaess schoolhouse, where the limit is 30 miles per hour. Police stopped the vehicle and could detect the smell of alcohol and marijuana, according to the report.

A preliminary Breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of .158, which is above the legal limit of .08, and he was arrested on charges of operating while impaired, according to the report.

Chairs Stolen During Yard Sale

A resident on the 300 block of East Michigan Avenue told police someone stole six chairs from her front yard during a yard sale May 28. The six chairs were worth an estimated $300. She said the chairs went missing between noon and 1 p.m., according to the report.

Flowers Missing From Grave

An 87-year-old Saline woman reported to police that the artificial flower arrangements at her husband’s Oakwood Cemetery grave continue to come up missing, according to the report.
