Police Report: Loaded Gun Found in McDonald's Bathroom

The following reports were gleaned from the Saline Police Department records filed from Aug. 25 to Sept. 6. Arrests do not imply a conviction.

Loaded Hand Gun Found in McDonald's Restroom 

A 67-year-old Dearborn Heights man has his handgun back after it was found sitting on the toilet paper dispenser in the men’s restroom at the Saline McDonald’s Restaurant. A 55-year-old man found the loaded weapon and gave it to management on Aug. 30. The gun, in a black holster, was stored in the restaurant’s safe until police arrived. Saline Police determined the weapon was loaded but that there were no rounds in the chamber. Police were able to find the gun’s owner. The man told police he was embarrassed he’d forgotten it. Police advised him that he was lucky that the “right person” found the gun and turned it in.

Saline Police caught a 26-year-old Elkhart, Ind., man accused of fleeing Milan Police Sept. 2. About 10:25 a.m., Saline Police were advised to be on the lookout for a blue motorcycle being driven by a shirtless white male wearing a backpack. The suspect was reported to have fled Milan Police at a high rate of speed. A Saline officer on patrol spotted a subject matching the description along South Ann Arbor Street. The motorcycle was traveling “well in excess” of the posted 25 miles-per-hour speed limit, according to police. According to the report, the motorcycle passed a north-bound vehicle on Ann Arbor Street near Pleasant Ridge Street. The officer advised dispatch the suspect had been spotted. Another Saline Police officer heard the call and turned south on to Ann Arbor Street. The man, boxed in by police, slowed down and stopped, according to the report. He was inspected at the scene by Huron Valley Ambulance and the Saline Area Fire Department and transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Saline, where he was taken into custody by Milan Police. The bike was impounded by Dave’s Towing.

Saline Man Arrested, Faces Sentencing

Police arrested a 19-year-old Saline resident on a warrant for violating probation. Kyle James Haertl, was wanted on three probation warrants. Police located him behind Tippen’s Market, at Ann Arbor–Saline and Pleasant Lake roads, and arrested him Aug. 28. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Washtenaw Trial Court Judge Archie Brown Sept. 26 on second-degree home invasion, larceny in a building and possessing a financial transaction device without permission.

Truck Damaged on Hartman Lane 

A 49-year-old Saline woman reported that someone “Keyed” the doors of her pickup truck and poured oil on its hood sometime Aug. 26. The woman told police the pickup truck was parked in the carport on the 300 block of Hartman Lane.

Milan Man Arrested for Drunk Driving

Saline Police arrested a 21-year-old Milan man for drunk driving Sept. 1, according to police reports. About 9:30 p.m., a police officer on patrol heard squealing tires and began following a vehicle heading south on Ann Arbor-Saline Road. According to reports, the driver was erratic. A police stop was enacted south of town near Maple Road and field sobriety tests and a preliminary breathalyzer test were conducted. The man was arrested and released on a personal recognizance bond, according to reports.

Tires Slashed at Union School

A 22-year-old Saline woman told police someone slashed the tired of her vehicle as it was parked overnight at Union School Sept. 2-3.

Motorist Throws Object at Oncoming Vehicle

A 40-year-old Saline man said the paint on his Ford Flex station wagon was damaged by an oncoming motorist who threw an object at his vehicle Sept. 4. At about 9:35 p.m., the man was driving eastbound on Bemis Road near Keveling Street when someone in a westbound vehicle threw an object at his vehicle. The object struck  the driver’s side windshield and side of the vehicle, splashing a red liquid. The man told police he turned to follow the red vehicle, but could not locate it.

GPS System Stolen From Vehicle

A 60-year-old Ypsilanti man reported to police that someone stole the Global Positioning System from his car sometime Aug. 27-28. He’d brought the care to the Lafontaine dealership, 900 W. Michigan Ave., for repairs and left it overnight. In the morning, the GPS was missing.
