The hiring committee formed to select a new principal for Saline High School has selected Julie Helber.

Helber is assistant superintendent at Milan Area Schools.

Helber's hiring is an item on the agenda for Tuesday's board of education meeting.

Staff at Saline Area Schools were notified Friday afternoon and an official announcement was released at 5 p.m. Friday.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to recommend Julie Helber as our high school principal. As a leader she is equipped to observe instruction, analyze teaching, and give constructive feedback that is imperative to helping the learning process. I am looking forward to having Mrs. Helber join the Saline Area Schools administrative team,” said Saline Area Schools Superindendent Scot Graden in a prepared release.

Helber was one of three finalists for the position.

After process that included the development of a candidate profile, soliciting input from students, parents, teachers, staff and administrators, Helber will be recommended to the Board of Education at next Tuesday’s meeting.

Helber is also curriculum director for Milan Area Schools, where she has worked for 19 years. She began as a teacher at the elementary building before becoming a building administrator. According to her bio, she holds a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan, graduate teaching certification, a Master's degree in k-12 curriculum and instruction, an education specialist's degree in education leadership and she's working on her doctorate at Eastern Michigan University.

A long-time resident of Saline, Julie and her husband Tim have three children in Saline Area Schools, Taylor, a senior, Owen, a freshmen, and Noah, a seventh grader.

Helber is expected to assume her duties on July 1, 2012.
