Gym America Invites Kids To 'Olympic Experience' At Saline High School
Tuesday night, kids can take part in gymnastics and track and field events before watching the games on a giant screen.
As the real Summer Olympic Games kick into high gear in London, the Olympic Experience is coming to Saline next week.
Gym America - a recreational and competitive gymnasticsfacility in Ann Arbor - is hosting a free event on Tuesday evening, July 31, called "The Olympic Experience."
The event, which is open to children ages 5 and up, takes place at Saline High School starting at 6:30 p.m. The school is located at 1300 Campus Parkway in Saline.
From 6:30-8 p.m., children will have a chance to take part in two of the biggest Olympic sports - gymnastics and track and field. There will be several stations set up in the gymnasium (including a bounce house), with coaches and athletes from Gym America providing coaching and guidance.
Every child who participates will receive a gold medal, and will have a chance to pose for photos on an actual medal stand. There will also be numerous prizes and other giveaways.
Then at 8 p.m., everyone will gather in the gym to watch the real Olympics on the giant screen - the Women's Gymnastics Team Final. Among the athletes competing for the U.S. is Michigan's own Jordyn Wieber.
Gym America owner Claudia Kretschmer said that interest in gymnastics and other Olympic sports always spikes during the Games, and she wanted to host this free event to give children a chance to experience some Olympic thrills of their own.
