Today's Good Morning Saline is from third grade students at Harvest Elementary School.

Third graders at Harvest participated in a project called 3rd Graders Can Do, which challenges the students to give something back to the community by donated canned goods to Saline Area Social Services. The service learning project is one of the last things the students do before graduating to Heritage Elementary School.

The goal this year was to fill Principal Betty Rosen-Leacher's office with more than the 677 cans collected last year.

The kids easily bested their goal, collecting 1,107 cans.

The donations are needed because the shelves at Saline Area Social Services are bare. The agency, which acts as a food bank for hundreds of area households, expects higher demand for food now that school is out, as families no longer have free and reduced lunches provided by schools.
