5 Places To Cool Down Today

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for that will be in effect from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect from noon to 9 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 101 degrees in the afternoon an early evning hours, with heat indices between 100 and 105 for three hours. According to the National Weather Service, the conditions could lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration.

The National Weather Service recommends that people drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has also declared June 28 an Ozone Action Day. Pollutants could cause issues for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma. The MDEQ advises people to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

If wish to be out and about, we suggest the following places:

Saline Rec Center, 1866 Woodland Dr.

Cool off in Saline's only public pool.

Curtis Park, 440 W. Michigan Ave.,

Relax under a shade tree. Make your way over to the Saline River to dip your toes.

Mickey's Dairy Twist, Dairy Queen, Mickey's Downtown

There's a place for ice cream in just about every section of town. Cool off a cone from one of Saline's ice cream servers. For the west siders, Mickey's Dairy Twist is at 751 W. Michigan Ave. Mickey's Downtown is located in the heart of town, at 107 W. Michigan Ave. And Dairy Queen is at 400 E. Michigan Ave.

Saline District Library, 555 N. Maple Rd.

Read a book. Research local history. Surf the net. There's plenty to do at the library. And it's air conditioned.

Your Backyard

Hook the sprinkler up to the hose, twist the nozzle, and run through the sprinkler.

We were staying cool in Briarwood mall until the power went off for the whole mall and everyone had to leave.
